In my first post of Yellow City, I showed you Cadillac Ranch. The man behind creating the scene of half-buried cars, Stanley Marsh (III), is also responsible for the random signs that are found all throughout Amarillo (among many other things, too).
There's even a flickr set where you can go and see more of these crazy signs. There are so many that I haven't even seen them all, but I did go on a little scavenger hunt with my friend Natasha to try to capture some of them. We got a few, but there are some even more peculiar ones on Flickr.
One of my personal favorites. ;)
These signs can be found all over town: in front of shops, in parking lots, in deserted fields, and even in people's yards. I think that residents of Amarillo, myself included, have, in a way, become indifferent to them. I see them all over town pretty much daily and never really think twice about them. The man behind these has very interesting views of art and one's experience of art. Frankly, I love the signs. Even though some of them don't even make much sense, I'm sure there's a story behind all of them. And I think that even Stanley Marsh would say that they're designed to be interpreted differently by each viewer, but then again I've never met him so I can't say for sure.
Which one is your favorite? How would you feel about having a sign like one of these in your yard?
