Bricks. Mortar. Progress!

Our house is really coming along.

So well, in fact, that it has become like a drug. If I don't go over there at least every other day or so, I start to go a little crazy - though that is more (really? only because of... Can't wait to move on. And move in!) because of this apartment we're living in.

We are beyond excited about the four walls and the spaces in between (and outside, too). It's very nearly all we talk about. The house has infected our dreams (and our loved ones' dreams, too!). We are, simply put, smitten.

A few things have happened since I last posted pictures. I think the framing had begun, but wasn't complete, at last report. Since then, we have exterior walls. Everything is framed. Windows have been installed. Deck and porch have been constructed. Shingles are on the roof. Siding is nearly complete on the house. Brick is being laid in the next 5 days. HVAC is in. Plumbing is in. (Ian LOVES his bathtub!) Our tray ceiling is framed out. We have spigots on the exterior of the house.

It really is all so exciting.

Up next, finishing the siding and brick. Passing inspection from the city so that we can move forward with insulation and sheet rock! We met with the cabinet design woman on Thursday and decided on our kitchen layout and where we're putting our built-ins. Can't wait to see them! We've got to pick appliances by next week (which is so overwhelming, actually) and then lighting fixtures, tile, cabinets, countertops, etc.

It's an amazing process...to build a house. To see something from the pen-and-paper stage come to life is fantastic.

We are so invested. So in love. So thrilled with our home, and the coming together of a dream and its reality.

A few pictures to show you where we are now...

Exterior framing complete

Driving down our street from Third Ave.
We were initially thinking that the house was going to appear too tall for the street (we have 9 foot ceilings in the basement and on the 2nd floor, and 10 foot ceilings on the main floor), but we think it sits really well on the lot and doesn't overpower its neighbors.

Stairwell. Door opening to left of stairs leads to our screened porch and deck.

Windows being installed!
And not just any windows, but highly energy efficient, low-e, double paned windows!
(Though we will have different mullions eventually...no horizontal mullions, just two vertical)

These doors are amazing!

They are seriously a thing to admire.

Have I mentioned how excited I am about these energy efficient windows???

The porch and deck are on!

The house is wrapped!

The fireplace arrived!

Our HUGE 8 foot tall, 12 foot wide doors to our soon-to-be-installed balcony...LOVE!

Siding going up

Pipes!

Copper plumbing

Love these big a** doors

Vaulted ceiling in the master BR

Spigots!

More siding...

Nearly finished!

Sand for the mortar

Brick!

HVAC system in the attic for the second floor
(There is one in the basement, too, to service the basement and first floors)
