Different Rug, Different Room?

This is a photo of my family room as it is now. These two chairs are facing into my kitchen, and to take this photo I was standing on the dining table, to the right is my blue buffet. I love the colors here, the red and blue together, it is so warm and cozy. And I do like it. But I always feel like maybe it is just a touch to formal for me. 

So off I go to Target today, mind you I am with the twins so I didn't have a lot of time for long decisions. If you know what I mean. I spot this cute rug, beachy, casual, the colors are right, and the price was VERY right! Swap them out and....

It totally changes the feel of the room. I can't decide. I think I am having some sort of identity crisis. I have to say putting together a house is hard enough when you are sure what style you are. I am one of those folks who falls in love with every style I see.

Different Rug, Different Room?

Rug Addict

Yes, I'm a rug addict. I've said it before and I'll say it again. My name is Alissa, and I'm a rug addict. I just love how pretty and colorful and fun and fresh they are. I often tell clients who are on a budget to invest in neutral big investment furniture pieces, like sofas and chairs.

So my favorite places to bring in fun color or pattern without breaking the bank? Art, pillows and RUGS! While searching for some client rugs, I fell in love with all these affordable patterned goodies from Layla Grace...

LOVE both these warm-colored, fun-patterned rugs.

These patterned floral beauties makes me smile.

A little more geometric.

I would love ANY of these in a kids room.

I normally gravitate toward simple geometric rugs, but lately I've been really drawn to more traditional, intricate styles. I am particularly crazy about the Sarafina rug from Ballard. Traditional and interesting, very old world. The steely blue color is perfect.

The 8' x 11' Sarafina rug (above) costs $1,000--which I know is expensive, but isn't a terrible price for a large, well-made rug. But this Costco rug is kind of a steal-- $480 for an 8' x 11'! I love the colors and it has especially great balance between warm/cool/neutral tones.

Would my husband go bananas if I turned my office into a girly-girl haven?

I'm currently obsessed with the gold/champagne/pink/white color scheme. I could keep the walls mocha {the wall color we inherited from the previous home owners} since I want to wait until we get to turn that room into a nursery before I choose a color to repaint it. I already own the gold sea urchins from Two's Company that I would mount on the wall, so all I would need is the metallic hide, "A" pillow and pink bow print...

London Calling

I don't have Bieber fever. I don't get star struck when I have a celeb sighting. But I am still moderately obsessed with Will + Kate. I didn't blog about my Royal Wedding fascination, but I've still got London on the brain. The whole ordeal makes me want to hop a Virgin Atlantic flight over there, have a spot of tea and pick up some new threads at Herrods {I was escorted out of the famed department store when I was 15 years old for having holes in my jeans - I guess the queen didn't approve!}

Since I'm Polish and Russian/Ukrainian by heritage, it feels a bit lame to have any Union Jack decor in my house, but I'm loving this wing chair I spotted at the Ben Sherman shop here in LA.

This Z Gallerie rug is a bit more subtle.

Really, seriously, if I had $130,000 to spare, I totally would have bought Princess Beatrice's fascinator, which is what it went for on ebay {though I'm loyal to my ban.do hair accessories}

I could make my own with the DIY shutterfly photobooth props I saw and fell in love with on the Oh Happy Day blog {you print these and cut them out to make your own adorable fancy photo props}

I will definitely be enjoying a spot of tea and a scone this afternoon!
