Pleated Chair- Before & After

A few weeks ago a friend of mine asked me to give her pleated chair a makeover. I of course was happy to help her out. She wanted an antique gold finish and picked out the fabric. 

She wanted the flower pattern on the front and stripes on the back. First I took all of the old upholstery off.

Primed and painted with Krylon 18kt Gold.

Once the paint had dried I dry brushed over the chair with Valspar's antiquing glaze. And sealed with Johnson's Paste Wax.

Slowly but surely began attaching the new fabric.

Added the double welt to hide the staples.

The pleats on this chair were definitely a challenge. I ended up making an entirely new back panel, using the old upholstery as a guide. Then I re-stuffed it with new fill. This was BY FAR my most ambitious project.

There were a few moments when I thought this was not going to happen. And may I say stripes may be the most UNFORGIVING pattern.... EVER.

I really loved how the gold finish turned out. I have a few other items that may be getting a similar finish.

Treasure Chest- Before & After

I am so excited about how this chest of drawers turned out. This is what she looked like before. Don't worry this isn't a real Eastlake chest.

I couldn't wait to see what the Silver Leaf Rub n' Buff would look like on the top so I went right for it. Even before I did my repairs... Shhh... don't tell. 

When I took off all of the old hardware, I found 3 holes. Since I was going with single drawer pulls, I went ahead and patched the other two with wood patch.

For the paint I chose Benjamin Moore's Radiant Skies. The trim and key-holes are Rub n' Buff Antique Gold. 

After one coat of paint, I distressed with an 80- grit sanding block. The second coat is a light coat of Valspar's Antiquing Glaze. I finished up with a quick white wash to brighten the piece.

I sealed her up with Johnson's Paste Wax.

Since it was an older piece and had stinky drawers, I added a few sheets of my biodegradable dryer sheets to freshen it up.

I love this little chest. I think it looks like it belongs in princess' forgotten tower. 

And of course she is for sale. But until she goes I will be enjoying her in my new office.

Oh, Happy Chair- Before & After

So I am cruising Craigslist on Friday night and found this little chair. I know I am a huge dork, rockin' out on a Friday night. 

 Anyway, I picked her up on Saturday morning with the hubs and brought her home. My original plan was to fix her up to sell.

Here she is after the old upholstery was removed. This needed to happen quickly since it was in a house with about a million cats. My husband is VERY allergic to cats. 

Saturday afternoon while the twins were napping, I ran out to Joann fabrics with my four year old and we picked out this cute fabric for $6.99 a yard.

I painted the chair in Valspar's Filtered Shade, distressed with an 80 grit sanding block and sealed it with Johnson's Paste Wax. I attached the fabric with staples and Curve Ease for the back. The trim is a double welt which I attached with a glue gun set on high. Total time spent, 3 hours. Watch out, I am getting pretty fast!

I think she is just too cute to part with so I think she is going to be my chair in my new...... WORK SPACE! Oh that's right! Stay tuned for further developments and a reveal.
