Texture Tuesdays #10...

This weeks theme is one of my favourites ~ Gardening

Comfort & Joy

Kim Klassen Texture: Stained Linen

***

One of my favourite pastimes is Garage Sales. In my town, they typically start in May and end around mid Sept and I am up and out the door early each Saturday morning with newspaper in hand, eager to see what the day's search may unfold.

Over the years, I've found lots of bargains (it really is true that one man's junk is another man's treasure), had lots of laughs (wondering why anyone would buy some items to begin with) :-)

and most importantly, made great memories with my daughter (and garage sale partner in crime)!!
I'm always on the look out for anything garden inspired & many of the "chachkies" in the garden were found at garage sales for pennies. Since we use our garden so much during the Summer, it really is an extension of our home, and we've created little "rooms" throughout it and decorate it as such.

Our pergola has an iron candelabra hanging from it, chairs have comfortable cushions, lanterns are filled with candles, decorative plaques and sconces are attached to the house and just like inside, we are surrounded by things that mean something special to us.

One of my favourite things to collect is vintage galvanized watering cans ♥ Depending on their condition, we use them for holding flowers, simply decoration, and yes, even for watering the garden by hand :-)

No matter what term is used to describe them, be it yard sale, street sale, moving sale, tag sale, car port sale etc ... I look forward to them every Spring/Summer.

This weeks free texture "Stained Linen" from Kim is one of my favourites so far ~ Thank you Kim for use of your generous textures ♥

The Garden in May ...

Welcome to

Sparrow's Garden ...

One of my favourite garden signs ~ three little Sparrows.

A garage sale find!
This is how our garden looks at the end of May ~
Splashes of colour are everywhere now ...

Hedges are in bloom & look their prettiest right now ...

The Columbine look amazing in a little hidden spot in the garden.

It's such a nice surprise to find them when I walk by.

Left completely unattended, they seem to thrive...

The Lilac bush is absolutely dripping in clusters!

Marigolds are in iron baskets hanging along the fence ...

Signs we've had for ages, are showing their age making them even more lovely to me :-)

We have our brush and colours ~ paint

Paradise

and in we go

Texture Tuesdays #6...

Rain ... Rain...and more Rain...

That has been the weather lately.

And a warm cup of cocoa and a few animal crackers is the perfect little warm up after a walk in the rain with my boy Ernie ♥
This weeks Texture Tuesdays comes with the challenge of a textured coffee or tea cup.

This is one of my favourites from Anthropologie.

Cocoa & Animal Crackers...

Kim Klassen Texture: All my Loving.

***

Animal crackers, and cocoa to drink.

That is the finest of suppers, I think.

When I'm grown up

and can have what I please,

I think I shall always insist

upon these.

Texture Tuesdays #4 ...

This week's Texture Tuesdays comes with a challenge using two of Kim's textures.

I must say, I never quite know how mine will turn out as my "formula" for applying textures is a bit "unconventional" :-)

I don't have Photo shop, but love the look of overlaying textures on photos.

The statement "necessity is the mother of invention" is true as I was determined to figure out a way to get this look on my photos.
I simply use Picasa.

I hold the photo I want to use, then the texture (s) click "collage"

then "superimpose" which will layer pictures over one another and "create".

Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't because you are limited with what you can do... but the fun is in the trying.

A lovely big Bee enjoying the Cosmos in our garden last Summer ♥
I think I rarely took the macro lens off the camera following bees and butterflies around the garden :-) They were so happy gathering nectar, they didn't seem to notice!
Kim Klassen Textures : Sweet Treat & Silence

Everybody should have his personal sounds to listen for -
sounds that will make him exhilarated and alive
or quiet and calm ...
One of the greatest sounds of them all -
and to me it is a sound -
is utter,
complete
silence

Mosaic Monday ...

Jax is eager to step out of his cage & begin his day :-)

***

It costs me nothing for curtains,

for I have no gazers to shut out

but the sun and moon

and I am willing

that they should look in

~Henry David Thoreau~

Wet snow is falling outside...

It is cold and damp ...

Little signs of buds happening on the honeysuckle vine ...

I am listening to my new Adele 21 C.D. (early Mother's Day gift) ~ it is Fantastic!!...

Reading my new Romantic Prairie Style Book by Fifi O'Neill ~ another early Mother's Day present & also Fantastic!! ...

Enjoying a slice of Bienenstich with a cup of tea ...

On a Monday ♥

Each Day...

Finish each day and be done with it.

You have done what you could; some blunders

and absurdities have crept in; forget them

as soon as you can.

Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it

serenely and with too high a spirit

to be encumbered with your old nonsense

~Ralph Waldo Emerson~

***

There are signs of Spring popping up everywhere now. The tops of the tulips are through the soil, and the buds on the Lilac are swelling.

The "resident" doves have returned and have been cooing in the garden, we have a pair of cardinals, lots of chickadees, a few red winged blackbirds, a pair of Jays, and of course, lots of little Sparrows ♥

The weather forecast sounds promising ... so this weekend, I hope to pot up some pansies in the window boxes :-)

Thankful {things I love} Thursday...

{Jax wondering where the birds are} :-)

***

Our little budgie Jax turned 6 on Tuesday ♥

He is a tiny bundle of personality & joy! From the moment I walk into the kitchen in the early hours of the morning, he begins to sing & comes to the door of his cage so I can open it and he can step out :-)

His singing continues all day long (especially if I play Nora Jones who he LOVES)!! He also LOVES bath time which requires lots and lots of newspaper to be placed under his tub!

Splish ... Splash... Jax is taking a bath!
And napping in the sunshine is another afternoon fave...
We've always had a budgie.

Some have been blue, others green, some spoke a little, one spoke a LOT, Jax doesn't speak, but makes up for it with song.

Each one with their own little personality & quirky ways.

I Love budgies ♥♥♥ I Love my Jax ♥♥♥

I realized that if I had to choose

I would rather have birds

than airplanes
