The innovative park

The innovative park

THE Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) will open its awareness park located in Al Thumama area in 2013.

The innovative park has been designed as a model centre for disseminating information on ways to conserve water and electricity.

In an attractive way, the park will also demonstrate the processes of electricity generation and water desalination from the sea and serve as an innovative source of entertainment and knowledge, especially for children.

This novel project was honoured with the Qatar Sustainability Assessment System (QSAS) award on Thursday.

Kahramaa President Essa bin Hilal al Kuwari received the award for the park which has achieved five-star QSAS Commercial Design Certification.

Prior to the presentation of the award, Head of Design Engineering Section at the Water Projects Department of Kahramaa Mohamad Thani al Maadead made a presentation highlighting the outstanding sustainability features of the project.

The construction work of the awareness park has been given this award for meeting all technical requirements by taking effective measures to minimise obstruction of daylight, providing landscape that encourages green and fights desertification, applying efficient lighting, cooling, plumbing and irrigation systems as well as using solar energy to heat and treat grey water.

Besides, the park uses materials that facilitate future reuse or recycling and reduce remarkably excessive energy consumption, control indoor pollutant sources and provides sufficient noise insulation.

The awareness park has been designed in a way to respect the cultural values of the country and the Arab world.

It boasts of intelligent building operation and control systems.

The park is being constructed as part of Kahramaa’s commitment to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030, which has sustainable development of the environment as one of its four main objectives
