how to dress like: aria montgomery

Pretty Little Liars may not be the best of shows- but let's face it: it's addicting. It reminds me of Gossip Girl, only Pretty Little Liars is much darker, more subdued, and set in the suburbs. I'm especially a fan of the style on the show- in particular the character of Aria Montgomery.

Aria has just returned from a year in Iceland, and European style has definitely been incorporated into her wardrobe. Aria loves a darker
palette. Her style can be described as a mix of trendy and bohemian.

Here are some tips to dressing like Aria:

1. Lace
The lace trend is hanging around this season, and Aria can't get enough of it. Whether it's a pair of tights or a top, lace is a staple in Aria's wardrobe. Unfortunately- lace can easily make an outfit look trashy, or like you're trying too hard. To avoid this, Aria pairs delicate lace with items that are more rugged, such as denim or combat boots. Juxtaposition is what Aria's style is all about- both girly and edgy.

2. Bohemian
Aria is a free-spirit, and this translates into some of her whimsical outfit choices. She'll opt for floral prints, layering, and long jewelry. Of course, Aria never strays too far from her edgy look, which brings me to my next point...

3. Leather
While Aria is certainly not a tomboy, she isn't exactly a girly girl, either. She's rough around the edges but still maintains her feminine charm. She expresses this by incorporating leather into many of her outfits. Whether it's a jacket, a satchel, or simple boots, Aria can often be seen wearing something leather. It's important to remember not to overwhelm yourself in leather- it's far from a motorcycle gang look. Aria simply likes a little bit of leather to balance the more feminine aspects of her outfits.

Pretty Little Liars is on tonight at 8/7 c...who's excited? I know I am!

And The Winners Are......Sandra and Kermit Gilson of Scotia, NY

Sandra Gilson from Scotia, N.Y., is the lucky winner of the eco-friendly 2010 HGTV Green Home  in Plymouth, Mass.

Sandra, a former New York State Tax Department employee, and her husband, Kermit, a retired science and math teacher, entered the HGTV Green Home 2010 Giveaway every day. The couple will use the cash prize to cover healthcare expenses, and they look forward to entertaining neighbors, friends and family in their new home and plan to share their good fortune with others. They cited the observation tower, porch (reminds them of the “good old days”) and kitchen as their three favorite HGTV Green Home spaces.

The Gilsons are big gardeners, so I suspect their Pinehills neighbors will see them outside, planting big ol’ veggie and container gardens in the near future.

Congrats to Sandra and Kermit!

      hair care

My hair has evolved a lot over time. When I was younger, it was flat, stick straight and really easy to manage. But through my teenage years, my hair began to get frizzier and wavier, so I obviously had to adjust the products that I use.

This is my current hair care routine:

      1. Frederic Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Shampoo, $23-$59.

My hair is a little thick, and when I don't use a good product, it dries in such an unkempt, frizzy manner. This shampoo make my hair SO soft and lustrous. It smells really clean, and really good!

      2. Frederic Fekkai Luscious Curls Conditioner, $23
I use this conditioner to tame my frizz and waves. I love it because it is fairly light, so it's very easy to rinse out and doesn't leave your hair feeling weighted down. With this, my hair gets really glossy, and my waves are defined.

      3. Living Proof Leave-in Conditioner, $24

A few times a week, I apply a quarter-sized amount of Living Proof leave-in conditioner right after I towel-dry my hair. Because I used to dye my hair a lot, it can get a little coarse and the leave-in conditioner ensures that I won't have frizzies or fly-aways when my hair dries.

      4. Kérastase Nutritive Serum Nutri-Sculpt, $40

My hair stylist swears by this product! I use one or two pumps of serum for the tips of my hair, and I don't have any split ends. This is a great serum because it doesn't leave your hair oily or heavy, it goes on light and leaves my hair feeling smooth and silky.

      5. John Frieda Frizz-Ease 100% Shine Glossing Mist, $6-$9
I LOVE this product! It's cheap and available in pretty much any drug store. It adds the perfect amount of shine to my hair. It's a great finishing touch- just be careful not to apply too much or hold the bottle to close to your hair when spraying. You don't want your hair to look greasy!

What kind of hair do you have? What are your favorite products?

      NNC Pincushion Exchange 2010

This is truly a late post on one of my exchanges with the NNC group. Sorry Radha for the delay in showing off your beautifully made pincushion. I received it during the moving house phase and was having a hard time locating my camera wire. Thanks Radha for the lovely blue stash and the cross-stitched pincushion! And Nigel sends his kisses for the well-needed back to school stationery stash too!!!
